Her behavior is bizarre, perhaps mad: she poisons the dog's milk and advises the dog not to drink it; she sets the sheets afire as her husband sleeps; she crawls under the dining table to sing. While detained at airport customs for carrying pruning shears, she meets a young Yugoslav woman and goes with her to a Gypsy enclave where she's fought over, takes a lover, helps with the sordid entertainment at a bar, and returns home more dangerous than before. The film also tells parallel stories of Marilyn's daughter becoming a junior homemaker as the young immigrant practices her striptease.

On the Friday before the midterm elections, we posted on vanityfair.com an abbreviated version of "Neo Culpa," the story by contributing editor David Rose that appears in this issue on page 82. Rose's report details how many neoconservative mandarins are now distancing themselves from the bungled planning and execution of the invasion of Iraq. Kenneth Adelman, who has been a member of the Defense Policy Board, told Rose that he "checked out" on the administration when President Bush awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to General Tommy Franks, Coalition Provisional Authority leader Paul Bremer, and former C.I.A. chief George Tenet. Each, said Adelman, is "directly responsible for the disaster in Iraq." Richard Perle, a former chairman of the Defense Policy Board and one of the invasion's principal pom-pom girls way back when, said, "At the end of the day, you have to hold the president responsible.… I don't think he realized the extent of the opposition within his own administration, and the disloyalty.… [Bush] did not make decisions, in part because the machinery of government that he nominally ran was actually running him." He added that total defeat—that is, the U.S. leaving Iraq in a shambles—is becoming more likely. "And then, you'll get all the mayhem that the world is capable of creating."

Well, the story made news everywhere, and to say that conservatives were all a-blog over our timing is to put it mildly. Circling the wagons, National Review Online held an Internet-symposium-cum-intensive-care-unit for those quoted in Rose's story. Eliot A. Cohen, a professor of strategic studies at Johns Hopkins University, was among the indignant: "I had assumed that the interview would not be published until January, and find the timing of this release of excerpts tendentious, to say the least." The excitable former White House speechwriter David Frum, the man who slid "axis of evil" into the president's 2002 State of the Union speech, was flushed with rage. "There has been a lot of talk this season about deceptive campaign ads, but the most dishonest document I have seen is this press release from Vanity Fair [it was actually Rose's abbreviated article].… Rose has earned a reputation as a truth teller. The same unfortunately cannot be said for the editors and publicists at Vanity Fair. They have repackaged truths that a war-fighting country needs to hear into lies intended to achieve a shabby partisan purpose."

My, my, Mr. Frum, your knickers really are in a twist. A lot of news leaks out just prior to important elections. Remember those Homeland Security orange alerts in the run-up to the 2004 presidential election that worked so well for the Bush-Cheney scare campaign? Or the timing of the Saddam Hussein verdict, two days before this November's vote? A personal favorite: the Internal Revenue Service's decision, as reported by David Cay Johnston in The New York Times in late October, to put off 2006 tax enforcement for regions hit by Hurricane Katrina until after the holiday season—and the midterm elections. A Times editorial the next day proclaimed that Mark Everson, the I.R.S. commissioner, who made the decision, was "the only person in the country who envisions Congressional campaigns as the start of Christmas shopping season." Everson, the paper pointed out, was the same fellow who when the White House lost its fevered bid to eliminate the estate tax moved to fire half the lawyers responsible for auditing estate-tax returns. For our part, we believed that with the president using the war in Iraq as a line in the sand for voters, and with his former advisers now believing it to be a botched failure of historic proportions, it was the public's right to hear of this neocon retreat before the election, rather than after it.

On that memorable day in November, America returned to a place where it should be and where it feels most comfortable: somewhere near the center. On K Street in Washington, Republican lobbyists were switching the photographs on their power walls faster than Tony Curtis swapped visiting-stewardess photos in his bachelor pad in Boeing Boeing. Lobbyists who didn't have pictures of themselves with prominent or emerging Democrats walked the Capitol hallways with the ashen look presidential impersonator Vaughn Meader had following the J.F.K. assassination. The president temporarily learned a new word of the day issued by his handlers: "bipartisan." He also trumpeted the strong economy, but skirted the issue of our record deficit. His economic theory: Of course you can live like a billionaire—you just have to borrow a billion dollars. And a day after Britney Spears showed her husband, Kevin Federline, the door, Bush did the same for Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. At this stage in their careers, both K-Fed and D-Rum should be willing to work for food.

I got about 2 ounces of these from Telluride CO during the annual mushroom festival they have there every August, Sept.

They used to be called 'Bezerker' mushrooms by the Vikings, they used to eat these before going into battle. Amantia were the first ever outlawed drug, being outlawed in Scandinavia in 1099 for being too dangerous. Lots of fellow Vikings were killed by their freinds in 'Freindly Fire' incidents. The guys hacking away under the influence of the Amantia could not recognise freind from foe !

In doing research on the Amantia, I discovered that the toxic dosage was very close to the effect dosage and I got cold feet. Didn't eat um. Apparently, the Amantia was used by the shamans of ancient Switzerland. The way araound the toxicity was that the preist would eat the Amantia, then after a little while, would piss into a vessel, and the followed would then drink the urine. That way they consumed a measure dose, filter by the priest. Sound like fun, unfortunately, there was no one around who would do that for me and I really didn't feel like drinking anyone's urine....

The effects of psilocybin are often pleasant, even ecstatic, including a deep sense of connection to others, confusion, hilarity, and a general feeling of connection to nature and the universe. Difficult trips may occur when psychedelic compounds are taken in a non-supportive or inadequate environment, by an inexperienced person, or in an unexpectedly high dose (see: set and setting).

At low doses, hallucinatory effects occur, including walls that seem to breathe, a vivid enhancement of colors and the animation of organic shapes. At higher doses, experiences tend to be less social and more entheogenic, often catalyzing intense spiritual experiences. For example, in the Marsh Chapel Experiment, which was run by a graduate student at Harvard Divinity School under the supervision of Timothy Leary, almost all of the graduate degree divinity student volunteers who received psilocybin reported profound religious experiences. (A brief video about the Marsh Chapel experiment can be viewed here.)

In 2006, a group of researchers from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine led by Roland R Griffiths conducted an experiment assessing the degree of mystical experience and attitudinal effects of the psilocybin experience; this report was published in the journal Psychopharmacology. Thirty-six volunteers without prior experience with hallucinogens were given psilocybin and methylphenidate (Ritalin) in separate sessions, the methylphenidate sessions serving as a control and active placebo; the tests were double-blind, with neither the subject nor the administrator knowing which drug was being administered. The degree of mystical experience was measured using a questionnaire on mystical experience developed by Ralph W Hood; 61% of subjects reported a "complete mystical experience" after their psilocybin session, while only 13% reported such an outcome after their experience with methylphenidate. Two months after taking psilocybin, 79% of the participants reported moderately to greatly increased life satisfaction and sense of well-being. About 36% of participants also had a strong to extreme “experience of fear” or dysphoria (eg, a “bad trip”) at some point during the psilocybin session (which was not reported by any subject during the methylphenidate session), with about one-third of these (13% of the total) reporting that this dysphoria dominated the entire session. These negative effects were reported to be easily managed by the researchers and did not have a lasting negative effect on the subject’s sense of well-being. [2] [3] This research was widely covered in the major media outlets.[4]

A very small number of people are unusually sensitive to psilocybin's effects, where doses as little as 0.25 grams of dried Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms (normally a threshold dose of around 2 mg psilocybin) can result in effects usually associated with medium and high doses. Likewise, there are some people who require relatively high doses of psilocybin to gain low-dose effects. Individual brain chemistry and metabolism plays a large role in determining a person's response to psilocybin.

Lupe has previously been on label Epic with his group,"Da Pak", and then signed a solo deal with Arista Records. In 2003 under Arista Records, Lupe dropped the single "Pop Pop" where he presented himself as a gangsta rapper with lyrics glorifying both gun use and jewels. [1] During this time, he also had guest appearances on singles from Tha' Rayne (2002's "Kiss Me" and 2003's "Didn't You Know and K Fox (2003's "This Life"), then Arista folded in 2004 and Lupe was signed to Atlantic Records. Jay-Z, emcee and current president of Def Jam Records, was so impressed with Lupe that he offered to sign him to Def Jam records (around the time of The Blueprint & The Black Album), but Lupe declined, having already started 1st and 15th. Jay-Z decided to assist him in the production of his album.[3]

In the early summer of 2006, West-Coast rap artist The Game said he wanted to do a collaboration with Lupe.

In January 2006, Lupe signed with major footwear and apparel corporation RBK, also known as Reebok. The relationship between the two began when representatives from the brand saw photos of Lupe wearing a cap from their skateboarding line, DGK, in the Chicago Tribune. When the two came into contact, Fiasco asked for some DGK products on the strength that he advertised for the brand. [citation needed] The company looked at the hype surrounding his name, his relationship with the director of Global Marketing for RbK International, and the fact that he was a sneaker enthusiast. [citation needed] Soon after, Lupe was invited to a few of the parties the company had thrown. [citation needed] The deal was a major accomplishment for the Chicago native, considering that apart from the other musicians on the Reebok roster, he was the only person to have not had an album released. Lupe was then tapped to be a part of the "O.G" marketing campaign, where Hip Hop artists such as Lil' Wayne and Mike Jones all designed their own personal colorway of the Reebok "O.G" model. [citation needed] He designed a white/grey model of the shoe, which is currently sold in footwear stores in malls across the world. Lupe and the rest of O.G. artists now grace magazine ads and billboards across the world.

Floria Sigismondi (born 1965 in Pescara, Italy) is a photographer and director. Apart from her art exhibitions she is best known for directing music videos for Christina Aguilera, Muse, Interpol, The White Stripes, David Bowie, Sigur Rós, Sheryl Crow, The Cure, Björk, Amon Tobin and Marilyn Manson. Her trademark dilating, jittery camerawork, noticeable as early as her video for Manson's "The Beautiful People", has been replicated by a great number of directors since.

Her life

Her parents were opera singers. Her family, including her sister Antonella, moved to Hamilton, Ontario, Canada when she was two. In her childhood she became obsessed by drawing and painting. Later, from 1987 she studied painting and illustration at the Ontario College of Art, today's Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD). When she took a photography course, she became obsessed once more, and graduated with a photography major.

Floria Sigismondi started a career as a fashion photographer. She came to directing music videos when she was approached by the production company The Revolver Film Co., and directed music videos for a number of Canadian bands. Her very innovative, but also very disturbing video works, located in sceneries she once described as "entropic underworlds inhabited by tortured souls and omnipotent beings", attracted a number of very prominent musicians.

With her photography and sculpture installations she had solo exhibitions in Hamilton and Toronto, Canada, New York, United States, Brescia, Italy, Göteborg, Sweden and London, England. Her photographs also were included in numerous group exhibitions, together with those of photographers like Cindy Sherman and Joel-Peter Witkin. The German art press Die Gestalten Verlag has published two monographs of her photography, Redemption (1999) and Immune (2005).

I finally inspected the K185 flight log from the computer in the Firestorm54 rocket. This was a long-burn motor launched in the Black Rock Desert at BALLS.

Red is acceleration and Blue is altitude over time, in seconds, on the x-axis.

The booster burned for 4.9 seconds, providing 10.6 Gs of acceleration, and reaching a top speed of 725 MPH. At this altitude, it was .98 Mach, and continued to climb for 25.3 seconds.

I am impressed with the RockSim rocket simulation software. Before the flight, it predicted a peak airspeed, maximum acceleration, and time to apogee that were 98% of actual measured values.

I have not uploaded the launch photo for this one, but it looks pretty similar to the K550 (but with the nose cone on!) and the J350 launches.
